Hanksite is unusual in that it forms in arid areas where stream waters dry up and deposit the minerals on the river bed, the crystals combine and solidify, and then form the hanksite crystals. Due to the high sodium content, the crystal tastes salty, clean the stone by placing it in a bowl of raw brown rice overnight. Do not wet this crystal as it will dissolve.
